High-end card manufacturing leaves little room for surface defects. A single scratch, dent or striation on a laminating plate can be magnified during lamination, raising reject rates and compromising the finish of smart cards and bank cards. The choice of plate material, surface finish and thermal consistency has therefore become a critical quality-control decision.
In plastic card production, the surface quality of the laminating plate directly shapes the final product’s appearance and durability. Minor imperfections can be amplified during lamination, increasing waste and making surface uniformity a central production concern.
Available plate options include classic stainless steel, aluminum and high-hardness specialty alloys. The plates are custom-finished and precision-polished in Viersen, Germany, to promote consistent heat conduction and heat distribution during lamination of PVC, PC, ABS and PET(G) materials.
For smart cards and bank cards, where surface wear resistance is especially important, hardened plates are specified. Special treatment improves resistance to scratches and damage, extending service life and helping maintain consistent output over long, high-frequency production runs.
Beyond standardized polished surfaces, plates can be customized for specific process requirements, including surface hardness, dimensions and special treatments. Each plate is inspected for flatness before shipment and packed under ISPM No. 15 standards with protective film on both sides to preserve condition in transit.
